This occurred to me based on the apparent news that Tom Bombadil was cut from the LOTR. I know the scenes with Bombadil are considered a detour...but I can't help picturing Hammer character actor George Woodbridge in the role.
Woodbridge not only appeared as the inkeeper in the first 2 Dracula films--(and by the way, why he didn't get the role for Dracula Has Risen From the Grave is an interesting question--because it's the one place in all 4 of the first movies where continuity was broken...)
Woodbridge also appeared as a policeman in the Mummy and a number of other character parts. Incidentally, he has an uncredited walk-on in Mr. Lee's Tale of Two Cities, again playing an inkeeper.
Curious as to whether any UK film books give any more detail about his background, training and career...
