Hello Everyone,

I thought I would toss another question out to you.

We know that Hammer films had made some great films and a few of them were memorable series.

There were 8 or so Dracula series,

Which of these was your favorite? And which didn

My favourite of the Hammer Dracula series has always been the first, DRACULA (AKA: HORROR OF DRACULA). I think that movie stands head and shoulders above the rest. Beyond that, BRDIES OF DRACULA (even without Mr. Lee!) and DRACULA, PRINCE OF DRAKNESS are solidly entertaining. From here on the series seems to deteriorate, although DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE is still fairly enjoyable. TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA is unusual and has a good score (although the best of it is not actually heard in the movie itself!), but it never really seems to fire on all cylinders. Sadly SCARS OF DRACULA is a huge disappointment. DRACULA A.D. 1972 is certainly superior to THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA, but both have their fair share of problems.

As for Cushing

I actually enjoyed SCARS OF DRACULA quite a bit despite the cheesy beginning with the bat and the lack of Peter Cushing. CL got considerably more screen time than in many of those films and the commentary on the DVD is really interesting. COUNT DRACULA & HIS VAMPIRE BRIDES was my least favorite. Maybe it was the roving packs of motorcyclists in fur vests. . . .
Sadly, I haven't been able to find more than one or two of the Frankenstein films to watch so I cannot compare those.
Hammer did make another series called QUARTERMASS. It is more sci-fi than horror though. It involved aliens and rockets, I think.

Yes, that's right. Hammer made THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT (AKA: THE CREEPING UNKNOWN), QUATERMASS II (AKA: ENEMY FROM SPACE)and QUATERMASS AND THE PIT (AKA: FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH). They are all good movies, particularly the last one.

You're gonna hate me for saying this but I liked them all....but if I had to choose one or two out of them all.....it would be 'Satanic Rites of Dracula' I love the setting of modern day......I only wish they'rd been more scenes set in the city (even more than Dracula AD 72). I actually screen printed one of the scenes where Dracula is following Van Helsing through the trees and gets caught in the thorn tree...and have this as my background picture on my PC!

The way they meet in the interview and Van Helsing tricks Dracula to pick up the Bible to expose himself and the end sequence when we see Dracula decompose! 10 out of 10!

I'd luv the find that patch of ground an pull out the stake to revive Count Dracula!

My other choice would be 'Scars of Dracula' as it's a one of story and the end where Dracula gets struck by lightening (the same reason I like Friday 13th PT 6 when Jason is revived by the same treatment)

I actually liked all the Hammer Frankenstien films except Horror of Frankenstien. It was an ok film but I miss Cushing.Monster from Hell wasnt bad. If you can stand the hairdoo.
Most of the dracula films were great. the modern day setting is very good Idea but Santanic Rites was not as good as the others. James bond type plot. F13 Part 6 Ive seen but never connected it with the dracula film. thanks for the connection.
