Rep Power: 0 | ...Christopher Lee, another true master of the craft, was easy to work with, very open to the other actors, and what a thrill to watch him work... - Caroline Munro
A new interview with the lovely Caroline Munro appears in the latest issue (October 2001) of the webzine Horror-Wood. In the interview, conducted by Dave Hagan of Monster Mania Collectibles, Caroline Munro discusses her career including working with Mr. Lee in Dracula A.D. '72. Definitely nice photos on her officials site.
One of her best movies-and it tends to get overlooked because of her Bond Babe status--is the Golden Voyage of Sinbad.
Come to think of it--this (I think) is the best Sinbad film. The Harryhausen effects fit in to the film stock and production design much better than they did in later films, including Clash of the Titans.
But Caroline Munro was outstanding as the slve girl "sold" to Sinbad. Yes, she had to wear the alluring outfits, but she showed a wider range of emotion than the usual stand-ins...
Best,
John F

I couldn't agree more John!
I loved The Golden Voyage of Sinbad as a kid...and still do come to think of it. The best of the Sinbad flicks in my opinion. Caroline Munro was definitely well cast as the slave girl Margiana, although I rank the part of Carla in Captain Kronos on pretty much equal footing. A couple other favorites in the film are - Hammer actor/Sherlock Holmes/Nayland Smith - Douglas Wilmer as the Vizier, and Tom Baker as the evil Koura. Baker of course went on to star as the Fourth Doctor in the BBC's long running Doctor Who program. Coincidentally, he also played the same role as Mr. Lee, that of Grigory Efimovitch Rasputin, in the stunning Nicholas and Alexandra, which I find amusing, because as a reversal, I could easily have seen Mr. Lee play Koura in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.
Having mentioned Tom Baker, I confess that when LOTR was announced, Baker was my first thought for the role of Gandalf. Just something about him that I think could have perfectly fit the part. Course I'm certainly not complaining about Sir Ian McKellen.
Cheers!

Wow--I never even thought of Tom Baker! He would indeed have been an outstanding Gandalf. And speaking of Koura, that was one of the best villains in film--I always felt bad for him by the end of the movie--and that rarely happens in films of that genre...
Although he only had a chance to lend his voice in the animated versions for TV, if he'd been younger, John Huston I think would also have been a great Gandalf.
Best,
John F

Greg,
If you are speaking of The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad, you should seek this one out. It is wonderful(and started a years long crush I had on Caroline), and the best one, imho.
Lovely lady she is, really. Met her a few times here in Florida where she was a guest at a con I helped run.
Funny thing about Tom Baker is he's actually in a recent fantasy film. Played the Elf King in the Dungeons and Dragons film.

Oh yes Domenick...I caught Tom Baker in the debacle that was Dungeons and Dragons. Took me a bit to even recognize him, but the voice finally made it click. From what I've read on Baker's site, he wasn't particularly happy about the role or the film, and I can't say as I blame him. If ever there was a film that clearly illustrates what is wrong with Hollywood today...ah well, you know the rest...
Oh and Greg, move The Golden Voyage of Sinbad to the top of your 'videos I must see' list. Well worth it and you'll love it!
Cheers!

Thanks Domenick and charles, I will buy this sinbad film immediately.
And I am compelled to see Dungeons and Dragons now, I loved Richard O'brian when he did the crystal maze, i hear he is in it.... when i heard this film was nothing to do with the fab cartoon of the same name I didnt want to see it.
Tom Baker just presented the 10 greatest tv sci fi shows, he was so funny and different. Doctor who came second, and not so interesting star treck came first. Doctor who has the best actors, best monsters and machines, best story lines ever!
Saphire and steel was in the list also, that program was scary. I use to watch it and it terrified me. And of course Joanna Lumley (Saphire) was in a CL film once also.

I absolutely agree about Tom Baker and he is definitely an underrated actor. Funnily enough I thought of him as Gandalf too when the project was announced. And what a tragedy that the only feature film he has appeared in for twenty years or so is DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS. He deserves a good deal better than that.

Does Tom Baker have a classical background (trainingwise?)
Aside from the TV show he hosted, what has he done recently in the UK? Any films?
Best,

Not sure about Tom Baker's training, although I know he has appeared many times in stage productions. I saw him give a commanding performance in the title role of AN INSPECTOR CALLS back in the 80s.
As far as TV work goes, his most recent series is the remake of RANDAL and HOPKIRK...DECEASED.

Didn't she appear in Faceless with Telly Savales and Brigitte Lahaie? I saw that movie a while back.

Tom was actually offered the part of Gandalf, but turned it down because he didn't want to live in New Zealand for 18 months!
