Curious as to whether the later Hammer pic, Twins of Evil, is available as a VHS in the U.S. Last time I checked Amazon it wasn't.
I've heard a couple of different critics rave about it, and the whole Karnstein trilogy sounds fascinating.
If anyone has any info on this, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
John F
PS (Charles, thanks for your reply (which I posted in the wrong forum!!)

Look in half.com.
It's a bit pricey, but watch this site, movies come and go quickly.

Yeah--Half.com's pricing is 50 bucks! But, I checked Amazon and while they'll have to search for a used one, they said it would be more like $19.99...so I'll wait and see how good they are scouring the countryside for a copy...

twins of Evil is a great film. I purcased it from videoscreams. It was cheap but the quality is poor. I had never seen it and I think like you , I didn t plan on waiting for a dvd or video years away. I like it better than the vampire lovers and lust for a vampire. Peters a real jerk in it too..He is really hard on his nieces who come to live with him and hes burning all the woman as witches in the name of the lord. ..He is really good in it and you will enjoy it. I wouldnt be suprised if anchorbay was going to release it in the future check out the anchorbay site for coming soon info.. Also MIdnight video, and I believe its euroshades or something like that ..Also Sinister cinema may have it . I got a great print of Horror hotel years ago before it was released

I finally got a second hand copy (well, it's ordered and in the mail) from skinnyguy.com. Amazon found them for me--and the price was only $7.99. Looking forward to watching it...

Twins of Evil, I haven't seen mention of that for a while.
I was lucky, dont know how, but when i was 15/16 - ok, 5 yrs ago, I pked it up for a fiver at my local Virgin Megastore, it was from the Video Club I think. They do movies at cheap prices :)
Its a good flick, but Karnstein is a bit of a mad man really, I cant actually use the term on the forms, LOL! Nothing bad, honestly.
Catch ya later guys.

I finally watched it last night. It is a good film--and though I've read some critics karping about the new twists they added to the vampire myth (i.e., they don't have to sleep by day in coffins; transformation of evil people into vampires is basically instantaneous; and good people who die from vampires don't become ones)--I thought they were an interesting change.
The mood of the film is superb: dark and almost humorless. Cushing is a fanatic, but he plays the role with a real sadness around the edges (it was supposedly the first film he did after the death of his wife).
On the other hand, I don't get who was killing the first victims since Karnstein didn't become a vamp until after we see some victims...
Definitely one for the collection...

And definitely, Cushing's turn as the religious fanatic shouldn't be missed. By the way, I've always wondered if this is the film Mr. Cushing referred to in an interview I saw with him once where he said that in one film he killed the hero, the heroine, and the monster.
I found the "additions" to the vampire mythology hard to take, myself. Afterall, burning was the preferred mode of disposal, traditionally. The stake was merely to hold the body down and prevent it from rising. Burning finsished the job once and for all. No body -- no vampire.
But hey, it's a movie. Not a treatise on folklore.

I actually rather liked the whole Kronos idea. In fact, I think reviving the concept would be a perfect project for the new Hammer. Somehow, though, the 'vampire flavor-of the month' thing didn't bother me as much as TOE's 'flame-resistant-undead.'

not to get away from twins of evil to much...but i think under better direction and a better leading man Kronos could have been something real special maybe a classic..i have read they were hoping to make a tv series out of it kind of like a night stalker type killing vampires and monsters on a weekly basis now i would have liked that
