Has anyone else read the biography on Vincent Price written by his daughter? It's an interesting read, and the Lees were consulted for history/stories. There are many interesting photos and family facts. She does an great job of studying his career in a scholarly fashion. Personal details give the book emotional depth, as she describes conflicts with her step-mother. The jealousy and resentments stand in stark contrast with the rest of the book, and threaten to spoil an otherwise devoted tribute. She is his daughter, though, and she dosen't pull any punches with her opinions. It's not the usual art & cooking Price biography.

Hi Maria! I have to admit I was a little skeptical about this book (art and cooking, ya know?) but now I definitely will read this one. Thanks for your review!

I welcome your comments, Randy! I thought it was an interesting book. Nobody sees us, warts and all, quite like our children.

Hi Maria! You got my curiosity going. I saw Victoria Price at Monster Rally in Crystal City Virginia in the summer of 1999. She talked very fondly of her father and told the audience about her father's last days. That was the saddest point in the talk because he is one of my favorite actors. She didn't have the book out yet. I have tried to get the book at my local book store but they don't have it. Dumb Huh? That was before I was able to get online and now that Iam I think I will try to get it. Does Amazon have it? Monica

Hi Monica! Yes I got mine from Amazon. I'm still reading it. What else did Victoria have to say at Monster Rally? (*curious*)

Hi Randy,I really can't recall everything she had to say accept she did talk fondly about his busy days while filming the many great films he had the opportunity to act in. She said he always had time for the family though. Victoria said she really didn't get along with Corale Brown. I really can't wait to get her book to read about Vincent's fabulous life. I'll keep you posted! Monica:smile3:

Hi Monica, Thanks. Maybe we'll all have some more thoughts after we finish reading the book(?) Vincent Price was such an exemplary human being and (like Peter Cushing) he set such a wonderful example for the rest of us! (By the way, Maria and Monica, do either of you know of any other good books about Vincent Price?)

One of Vincents last screen appearences is in Edward Scissorhands as the maker of Edward. He is very old and you
can see that he is ill. It was very touching seeing this
very talented actor working in one of the absolutly worst
films I have ever seen starring Johnny Depp. I have seen this biography by his daughter Victoria and I was going to
buy it but it was to expensive. The Cinema Store in Leicester square has it, a very good shop with lots of films and books and records signed by Mr Lee.
That was my first intro to Mr Price including my absolute
favourite episode of the muppets where he sings a song of
friendship together with the horror muppet characters.
That episode is still availible somewhere, i don't know where. Does anyone know??. The Video is called "Gonzos Horror Cabinet".

Randy, there are couple of other books out there on Price. One that I've been trying to locate is a 1974 biography "VINCENT PRICE-UNMASKED" by Parish & Whitney. Ofcourse, the great one himself has written numerous cookbooks and I have an interesting one written by Price entitled "THE BOOK OF JOE" from the 60's all about his favorite pet dog! Also, Joakim, I personally love EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. This film may appear as a fantasy, but Johnny Depp does a great job portraying a kind (but lost) soul who is misunderstood by most around him (who are more interested in fitting in to the material world & society's pressures than doing the right thing). Notice how Tim Burton surrounds the movie with a 60's American suburbia (which in itself reflected the easily swayed majority) without really defining the time period of this fantasy.

Rep Power: 0 | The Book of Joe was very warm and moving, I enjoyed reading it.
I grew up in late Boomer 60's USA suburbia, and the behavior was nearly as awful as portrayed in the film. He wasn't exaggerating very much. Depp and Rider have great chemistry: luv 'em both!
