As I'm sure many in these Forums know, Mr. Edward De Souza starred in a number of Hammer Films' most high-profile productions; including Kiss of the Vampire, and Tha Phantom of the Opera. Mr. De Souza became very well-known and respected on the British stage, performing at Stratford, the Old Vic, and the National Theater. This in addition to film credits that include The Thirty-Nine Steps, and The Spy who Loved Me.
The other day, quite by accident, I discovered, at my local bookstore, an audio book of Mr. De Souza narrating Miguel de Cervantes' great novel, Don Quixote. This recording is a masterwork. The translation from Cervantes' 16th century Castillian to modern English is crisply and competently done; and Mr. De Souza provides a wonderful voice-over. Produced by Naxos, and available in both cassette and CD format, this recording includes delightful interludes of Spanish renaissance music to punctuate the action and segue the chapters of the book.
So. . . if you're looking for something different to listen to on those quiet nights at home, or as you're driving around doing your thing: Throw away that old Bananarama tape and get Edward De Souza's rendition of "a classic tale well-told" -- as Charles would say.
