With Mr. Lee now in his 6th decade of making movies, which decade do you think has been his most succesful, in terms of stardom and notability. I may have picked the wrong words here but I think you know what I mean.
In my opinion his most succesful decade would be the 70`s, with the likes of "The Wicker Man", The "Musketeers" "To the Devil a Daughter" and "The Man with the Golden Gun" to name a few.
I think his best is yet to come, but can`t comment on that yet until they are released.

Well, your topic said FAVOURITE DECADE.....and later you mentioned what you think was his most successful decade.
So , I will try to give an answer to both.
Concerning his most successful decade I would totally agree with you. Definitly the 70´s !!!!
And you picked out very good examples for that.
WICKERMAN,TMWTGG etc.
And yes I also agree with you that his absolute best decade , concerning success etc. has just begun.
But talking about my favourite decade, so far, I would say the 80´s. At least many of my favourite movies belongs to this decade. HOUSE OF THE LONG SHADOWS,SERIAL,GOLIATH AWAITS,SAFARI 3000 etc.
But of course you can also find some of my favourite movies in the other decades. Like for example in the 70´s and 90´s.

There are so many aspects to consider. I suppose generally that the '70s contain most of my favorites, though his early films are fascinating. It's a balance of opportunity/emotional flexibility/quality of performance: I like his newer roles, because you can see the maturity in his performance. He was a little tight in the earlier years (less emotionally flexible, not drunk ).

I would have to say the Hammer years, 1957-1973. Although Steffi just reminded me of one of my favorite lines from ANY movie: "There are baboons on the road!" ::lol::

As an addendaum to what I wrote earlier, I'll have to agree with what was said before about the 70s being Mr. Lee's most priductive decade.

Both, really. It was in the 70s that Mr. Lee not only broke with the Dracula straightjacket, but gave us some of his most interesting and commercially successful performances. To wit -- THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, THE THREE MUSKETEERS, and TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER, to name just three.

I'm going to have to pick the 70s too. Although I am a big fan of the Dracula films, mainly the first three, the 70s had quite a variety of roles Mr. Lee portrayed.
What a range of films. Wicker Man was a disturbing movie, Man with the Golden Gun, Hannie Caulder, and Dracula A.D. 72.
I remember when I saw Three Musketeers seeing Mr. Lee with the eye patch and the monkey. The sword fight on the ice was great.
It is unfortunate some of the people making movies couldn't get past the "too tall", or "too foreign" issue earlier on... they would have seen what many of the CL fans learned early on, that Mr. Lee is a unique and immensely talented actor who has a presence about him few can match.
With that said, it looks like the new Millennium is starting off on the right foot with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings... I can't wait.

The Devil Rides Out! (1967)
