We all know LOTR will make a killing at the Oscars but, will Mr Lee get a price at last?

I voted for Lifetime Achievement Award, simply because genre movies rarely do well at the Oscars. I still vividly recall Star Wars in 1977 getting very little more than effects related awards. While LOTR will be groundbreaking, epic fare, it's fantasy roots will, I predict, keep the production and its actors from the recognition they will likely deserve.

Since I haven't seen LOTR yet, ha, I can't say Christopher deserves an Oscar for the role (picky, picky).  HOWEVER, he is far, far deserving of a Life Achievement Award.  I hope that Billy Crystal will be the emcee when that happens; I want him to produce one of those small films he presents at the beginning of the Oscars where he appears in the scenes and just run the gamut with Christopher's film roles.  Then do the respectful presentation of the award.  If Christopher didn't have a fantastic sense of humor I'd not suggest it, but I think he'd get a good laugh out of a send-up like that.  For example, Lord Summerisle singing "Summer is acomin in" while Billy is imprisoned in the Wicker Man, yelling "when I asked for a room with a view, I really had something else in mind, more Marriott???".

Ok, so I'm crazy.  To the point, Christopher deserves an Oscar...he's splendid.

I'm with Pam on this one. There's no way for me to form an opinion on LOTR,etc. until I see the film. I've no doubt that Mr. Lee will do an outstanding job, however. The Lifetime Achievement Award is my vote. There is no actor in all the world more deserving of this. And how refreshing it would be to see it go to an individual as hard working, intelligent and moral as Mr. Lee. As much as I dearly love the craft, many of today's actors do not earn my respect due to the nature of their off-screen personalities. It seems to me that Mr. Lee realizes his life is blessed and graciously shares a part of it with his fans. His views on the human condition have convinced me that he is a man of great wisdom. If the eyes truly are the windows to the soul, then Christopher Lee is a rare spirit.:sunny:

I agree with the lifetime achievement award.
I can't think of an actor more deserving of this award and i'm actually amazed that Mr Lee hasn't been up for one of these awards earlier.

Usually I´m not an optimist.....but in this special case I am.

In my opnion he deserves an Oscar since many years.
And because of the fact that he was forgotten all these years....and because of the great part he will surely do in LOTR.....I voted for 2 Oscars.

He deserves that more than any other actor or actress.

In the very least, Mr Lee MUST get the lifetime achievement award--this is definite. When he does, while watching the ceremony it will be as if a relative of ours is getting this award--that's how much pride we'll have.

I recall many years ago watching The Science Fiction and Fantasy Awards ceremony on TV. Mr Lee, with Piper Laurie (who played the mom in CARRIE) were co-presenters. There was Mr Lee in his tux--he looked PERFECT.

I thought, "why is this man not on the receiving end in a major awards ceremony?"

I am STILL asking that same question.

I think he really is one of the few people who deserve an Academy Award for their efforts and their dedication to the job. And, let's be honest: within the last years most Oscars were just awarded because there HAD to be a film at hand to receive the price, but if you take a glance through its history you'll notice that the quality of a motion picture was traditionally determined mainly by the plot and the PERFORMERS, wheras today's productions are chiefly relying on SPECIAL EFFECTS that are to compensate for bad acting.
And that's not how it should be considering its roots: the theatre.
So let us wish all the best to Mr. Lee for next year's Academy Award
