Canadian members that subscribe to Space: The Imagination Station can catch Mr. Lee and Peter Cushing in the 1967 film Island of the The Burning Doomed (also known as Night of the Big Heat and Island of the Burning Damned) on the evening of Wednesday, April 11. Although not exactly considered a classic by most critics, I'm looking forward to it as I haven't seen it before! Surprisingly, my local newspaper's TV Times guide gave the film a rating of 2 out of 4 stars, mind you, the same folks also gave 2 stars to The Elian Gonzalez Story and Interview with a Vampire, so that doesn't exactly mean a whole lot. Cheers!

i agree with Jacob;
it's a fun film to watch, and it has Peter Cushing and Christopher lee together!!,
what more can you ask?
I think the only major let down for this film is the small budget, because i don't think anyone can get scared by a large fried egg, i believe that;s the decription a critic made of the aliens that you'll see in the film.
an interesting fact about the film is that to simulate the extreme heat described in the story, the actors had to have their clothes wet while filming, while the "real" weather was the complete opposite!
That was another film that while filming , mr.Lee (and the complete cast as well) ,had to endure very difficult working conditions!
when will we see a DVD release for this one???
take care :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Jacob, Sylvain...I'm sure that I will enjoy it.
Can't wait to see "fried egg aliens" on my screen. Wouldn't be the first time either. Course the TV Times didn't refer to them in quite such a charming manner.
"Britons sweat out a winter inferno caused by malignant alien protoplasm."
Just have to love those concise descriptions! Hmmm...I see potential for a new game there. Write a cheesy description or oblique synopsis, in the above TV Times style, to a CL movie in 15 words or less. The next person guesses what the film is. What do you think?
Just a thought....

You mean like, "Ancient Egyptian Lover comes unwrapped in modern England over old flame" or "Hairball terrorizes Spanish town before the final bell tolls for him"?

I just got "Island" from eBay a few days ago, and enjoyed it very much. I'll withhold close scrutiny (pro and con) until our Canadian contingent has seen it on the eleventh, but I must say, I wasn't let down by the look of the aliens. And whatever their look, it was they who were cooking the humans. There's plenty to be concerned about in this one.

Why not start a new Game thread for it, Charles?
Juan, the spell-checker doesn't get "color" or "analyze" right -- and its speech synthesizer messes up "schedule."
*ducking and running*

The spell-checker works and so does everything else and this is the wrong forum to complain. LOL!!!

OK, I can't wait for Charles' new game to get moved to its own thread (or for a Game forum to be instituted (hint hint), so here's my 15-word, obfuscated plot clue:
"Home-educated fellow promises to make new man of convicted criminal, then incarcerates resulting new man."
(Joe -- I'm not sure I've figured out your "hairball" plot clue.)

Ah Rebecca...the hairball clue is a non-Christopher Lee film. At a guess I'd say it was Hammer's Curse of the Werewolf with Oliver Reed.
By the way, feel free to start a thread for this thing yourself.
