I would love to hear about some of the histories/biographies/autobiographies that you all can recommend on Hammer, stars, or behind the scenes personalities! What do you recommend in or out of print?

Some of my Favorites are of course Cl's and Peter Cushing's Auto-bios. Hammer films an exhaustive history, Hammer Horor, Cl & PC their 22 films and Roy Ashton's book Greasepaint and gore. Can't forget the Cushing Companion and Ingrid Pitt's auto-bio too.

Don't forget Jimmy Sangster's Do You Want it Good or Do You Want it Tuesday?

The House Of Horror (Lorimer)...a complete history of Hammer Films.
Hammer Horror..The Collectors' Edition, (Marvel Comics)which has a lengthy discussion on Mr. Lee and P. Cushing.

Wow! You guys are thorough. I'll add one or two things that might be useful to the Hammer or gothic horror fan. Nightwalkers: Gothic Horror Movies - The Modern Era
by Bruce Lanier Wright. Taylor Publishing Co. 1995
This one essentially covers the Hammer horror and AIP output, hence "The Modern Era". Designed much like a typical video guide, it features some amusing views and a rating system. Nothing you haven't encountered before, but well presented and fun to read. The Men Who Made the Monsters by Paul M. Jensen
Twayne Publishers 1996.
This book features fairly detailed information on James Whale, Willis O'Brien, Ray Harryhausen, Terence Fisher and Freddie Francis. Fisher and Francis being the key chapters for Hammer fans. Informative and much cheaper than the books individually available on Fisher and Francis. English Gothic: A Century of Horror Cinema by Jonathan Rigby. Reynolds & Hearn 2000.
A key work that explores the history of the British horror cinema. Far reaching in scope and highly informative. Obviously features much on Hammer, but more interesting for some of the obscure or forgotten films.
For really great coverage of Hammer Films and its stars, both in front of and behind the camera, I would highly recommend a couple magazines. Dick Klemensen's Little Shoppe of Horrors and Wayne Kinsey's The House that Hammer Built. Both are wonderful productions but suffer from fairly erratic publishing schedules, although issue 15 of The House that Hammer Built should currently be on stands, as I picked up a copy about 2 weeks ago.

Heh!
You all appear to have covered the lists.
Personally I own:
CLs Bio,
Ingrid Pitts Bedsdie Companion.
A number of House of Hammer books - all of which show a different spin upon the company and the films, esp. when dealing with which films they have chosen to cover.
I have also read PCs Bio - I loved that, may have to go to my local library and see if they still have it and see if I can buy it.
sorry, for not being on so much - uni, packing, working, and chilling out, tended to take up my time - oh, and silly me lost my password, hehe!! Found it again (Obviously!)
