Until we are able to upload those recordings, there is no point in thinking about reproducing them to DVD. Either way, I think a home solution would be too slow, expensive and time consuming.
Regarding the upload of a DVD quality video, there are different standards available for streaming and direct downloads. Either way, these would only be suitable for broadband connections. File sizes can be as large as 50mb for 20 minutes at high compression.
In order to move video from a digital DVD camera to a server, we need a new motherboard which incorporates a firewire connection. The addon cards are PCI and the restriction of the bus transfer makes the PC unsuitable, at least the card I'm using at the moment. The only other way is using an analog video editing card, but the quality ends up more detiriorated that if the original recording was done in analog . Memory and processor power are also very important, I don't think SDRam is fast enough for this.
With my current PC setup I'm finding it imposible. Until I find some free time to go and search for these components, I'll keep the recordings in a safe place.
