Wow! You guys are thorough. I'll add one or two things that might be useful to the Hammer or gothic horror fan.
Nightwalkers: Gothic Horror Movies - The Modern Era
by Bruce Lanier Wright. Taylor Publishing Co. 1995
This one essentially covers the Hammer horror and AIP output, hence "The Modern Era". Designed much like a typical video guide, it features some amusing views and a rating system. Nothing you haven't encountered before, but well presented and fun to read.
The Men Who Made the Monsters by Paul M. Jensen
Twayne Publishers 1996.
This book features fairly detailed information on James Whale, Willis O'Brien, Ray Harryhausen, Terence Fisher and Freddie Francis. Fisher and Francis being the key chapters for Hammer fans. Informative and much cheaper than the books individually available on Fisher and Francis.
English Gothic: A Century of Horror Cinema by Jonathan Rigby. Reynolds & Hearn 2000.
A key work that explores the history of the British horror cinema. Far reaching in scope and highly informative. Obviously features much on Hammer, but more interesting for some of the obscure or forgotten films.
For really great coverage of Hammer Films and its stars, both in front of and behind the camera, I would highly recommend a couple magazines. Dick Klemensen's Little Shoppe of Horrors and Wayne Kinsey's The House that Hammer Built. Both are wonderful productions but suffer from fairly erratic publishing schedules, although issue 15 of The House that Hammer Built should currently be on stands, as I picked up a copy about 2 weeks ago.
